Artificial Foliage for Exterior Amusement/Hospitality Parks
At Custom Plastic Developments, we have the experience, imagination, and expertise to offer innovative solutions to our customers’ most challenging engineering and manufacturing requirements. In the project illustrated here, we were approached by a major theme park to produce artificial foliage for one of their most popular attractions. This foliage was to be constructed using local proprietary materials, and required full service—from initial design to final manufacturing and production. With our long history of producing complicated fabrication projects, we were pleased to accept the contract.
This was an especially challenging project, as it entailed highly complex design and tooling, difficult secondary assembly, and very high production volumes. Working with an exotic material with little historical data and information, our full service capabilities were put to the test. We provided complete product design, development, and testing to ensure that the foliage would fulfill our customer’s exact specifications. These included meeting strict fire resistance codes, as well as designing the foliage to withstand local weather extremes, which included climate changes, extreme temperatures, and a regular risk of hurricanes.
We employed our CNC machining centers and EDM centers to create the necessary tooling, and then used our fleet of injection molding machines to fully fabricate the artificial foliage. The process included completely unique and innovative procedures, including fusion welding of thick wall plastics and a difficult and innovative assembly process. Each piece of foliage measured 12" x 24" x 5" and was constructed to tolerances of ±0.01". This was a high-volume order, and we produced and delivered over 100,000 of these pieces for this Florida customer.
Since this project was completed 15 years ago, we have received zero field service or warranty issues. The customer has since entrusted us with additional artificial foliage projects, including for international locations.
