Plastic Injection Molding, Design & Engineering Services

Gun Parts & Accessories

We are building on over 40 years of experience in custom plastic manufacturing at Custom Plastic Developments. Since our inception, we have grown to become an industry leader, well-known for accepting the most challenging and demanding jobs. In the project illustrated here, a major manufacturer in the firearm industry needed custom designed and fabricated gun grips, as well as other miscellaneous gun components. The complexity of this job demanded the most experienced personnel and highest quality equipment. With our long tradition of experience with plastic design and high-precision manufacturing, we were pleased to accept the contract.

These parts, which included a 380 gun grip, a 9 mm gun grip, and a custom gun case, were very complex in design. They required zero ejector pins and complicated multi-action tooling. We are well experienced in working without injector pins, as well as dealing with the advanced materials this project required, including molding glass filled nylon. Our engineers helped our customers re-design this part to meet their exact specifications. Then, our highly experienced personnel put our machinery to work, fabricating the molds with our EDM and CNC machining centers and then molding the grips and cases with our full complement of injection molding machines. Hand-loaded stainless steel insert molding was required, along with custom fixturing. Throughout the process, it was important to maintain control of all possible warpage. It was also imperative to produce an excellent surface finish on the glass-filled nylon.

When completed, these parts were constructed to the highest levels of accuracy. The 380 and 9mm gun grips measured 5" x 3" x ¾" and the custom gun case measured 9" x 10" x 2", with tightest tolerances held to ±0.001". Quality assurance was ensured with FA inspection, 100% in-process inspections, and metal component fit checks. Our customer was pleased with our work. We were able to provide quick turnaround times, including 2 months for tooling from the initial concept and 2 week turnaround times for production parts. Our precision fabrication processes produced highly aesthetic and completely structurally sound parts. Upon completion, over 50,000 of these parts were manufactured and sent to our customer in Florida.
